CBD Guide: Check What is CBD?

What’s CBD?

CBD is one among more than 100 phytocannabinoids found in the cannabis plant’s resinous flowers. As its therapeutic properties have been recognized by scientists and doctors around the globe, CBD has become a well-known compound.

CBD is safe and non-addictive, with the potential to treat many ailments. It is closely related with THC, another phytocannabinoid.

THC can cause the same high as cannabis, but CBD doesn’t. CBD does not cause you to feel stoned or intoxicated. CBD can reduce or eliminate the effects of THC, depending on how much you take.

CBD has many therapeutic benefits without the intoxicating or high effects of cannabis. This makes it a popular option for people who want to get high but not feel high. It can also be taken as an oil.

Multipurpose

People are looking for alternatives to pharmaceuticals due to the severe side effects they have. CBD is an alternative.

It is a natural remedy for chronic pain, anxiety, depression, and many other conditions. CBD has been shown to have neuroprotective and anti-cancer properties. It has been proven to stimulate new brain cell growth [1].

Anecdotal and extensive research are highlighting CBD’s therapeutic potential in neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, skin disorders, gut disorders, autoimmune disease, and many other conditions.

Pharmaceutical CBD

The FDA approved Epidiolex in 2018 for treatment of severe seizure disorders in children. Epidiolex, a CBD-rich CBD formulation, was approved by the FDA in 2018. This signifies that the FDA recognizes it as a medical resource and a therapeutic tool.

CBD Health Benefits

CBD has been advertised to relieve anxiety, depression and pain. CBD is said to promote sleep.

Depression Relief

Anxiety and depression are becoming more common in our society. They are usually treated with psychological interventions such as CBT (cognitive-behavioural therapy) or pharmaceutical drugs. Side effects can be severe and the symptoms may get worse.

It has been proven to be effective in treating anxiety and depression. CBD oil does not have the same side effects as pharmaceutical drugs.

In animal studies [2], CBD was also shown to be antidepressant-like in some cases.

One study found that 57 men received either oral CBD or placebo before speaking publicly. A 300mg CBD dose was found to be very effective in reducing anxiety during public speaking [3].

Children with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) have also found CBD oil useful. It was able to ease anxiety and insomnia .

Pain Relief

The ability to relieve pain has been a hallmark of cannabis for many years. Scientists have only recently discovered that CBD, along with other components, is responsible for pain relief.

Endocannabinoids are neurotransmitters produced by the human body. They bind to cannabinoid receptors within the nervous system. These neurotransmitters regulate appetite, sleep, and immune system response.

Research has shown that CBD has the ability to reduce chronic pain and inflammation. It also interacts with neurotransmitters [5].

Numerous studies have demonstrated that CBD and THC can be effective in relieving pain, especially in the context of multiple sclerosis (MS) and arthritis. Sativex, an oral prayer that contains a mixture of CBD and THC, is a product. It is approved for pain relief in multiple sclerosis in many countries.

One study showed that Sativex significantly reduced pain during movement, at rest, and in the morning for 58 patients with rheumatoidarthritis [6].

A few studies also showed that CBD can help with schizophrenia [7], and other mental disorders by decreasing psychotic symptoms.
